Blah blah

I did not run away, I have just been a little blah lately. I am tired and have been slacking on my exercising, my writing, my housework and (worst of all) my schoolwork. I have no real reason to be so worn out but I am planning on getting back to running (whether I feel like it or not) and hope that gives me some energy. I did get my camera back so I should have some good pictures to post soon.

A St. Patrick's Day Poem

The Other Side of the Rainbow
By Annika

On the other side of the rainbow
is cheese and children saying please.
They're kind of annoying you see.
And lots of little Irish girls and boys
dressed in green.
I try to catch them here and there
I try to catch them everywhere
On the other side of the rainbow
with a pot of gold.

Swim lessons

Ian had his last swim lesson last week. He had so much fun we are a little sad it is over! He loves swimming and it was a great way for him to burn off some energy. Here he is:

Career goals

Yesterday Ian told me he wants to be an enemy when he grows up.

Today, he said he changed his mind. He doesn't want to be an enemy because he doesn't want to be attacked. Instead, he said he would like to be a king so he can do whatever he wants. Plus he would have his own knights, which he thinks is pretty cool.

Short update

I know I have been neglecting this blog. We have been busy with orthodontist, pediatrician and eye appointments, swim lessons, enrolling Ian in kindergarten and celebrating all the March birthdays in the family. Right now I have a research paper I should be working on but what I really want to do is paint the girls' room. There is a gallon of purple paint all ready to go and it sounds like way more fun to paint than to write a paper. So as a compromise, I am doing neither and blogging instead. Ian continues to baffle with his behavior. Saturday he came unglued because we had to leave Erin and Chad's (and their Wii.) What resulted was a display of temper that may have convinced Erin and Chad to never have children. And then today? We were at Uncle E-fun and Tricia's for Bethy's birthday and Ian was playing video games. I told him it was time to go and he said "Okay" and obediently followed me out the door. Now if I could figure out what the difference was in those two scenarios that would result in such different outcomes my life would be so much easier. But, alas, I am afraid the mystery will continue, it is too hard to figure that kid out. (Yes, I did just end a sentence in a preposition.) So anyway, this upcoming week will be equally busy with Girl Scouts, swim club for Alex, swim lessons for Ian, redoing the girls' room, more birthday fun and....Zumba? Becky, what say you?

An art museum story

Annika was cracking me up at the art museum. She saw a Jackson Pollack painting and another painting that was essentially a rectangle on a painted canvas. She kept asking incredulously "Is that supposed to be art?" She is probably not the first one ever to ask that question. That also probably explains why wanted to race through the museum at break-neck speed.

Girls' Day Out

For Annika's birthday we spent the day together. She decided to invite Alex to go along with us.
We went out to eat. Annika wanted to sit at the bar, but I told her no. We sat down and she looked the menu over and said "I think I'll have some pasta." She picked carrots, oranges and a slush to go along with it. Then she said she wanted a 'dirt cup' for dessert. I asked her what made her think I would let her order all that. Her answer? "Because you're my mommy!" Duh! She was right, I did let her get it all, because I am her mommy. (And because it was her birthday):

We went to Wal-Mart

Then, off to the art museum. It was something of an express tour. It didn't go over quite as well as I had imagined it would. I don't think they were all that interested. Although they assured me they were having fun, we ended up practically sprinting through each exhibit.

The highlight? Not this painting:

Not even the giant corn on the cob:

Nope, it was the gift shop. I think we spent more time in there than we did the rest of the entire museum:

And because we didn't get quite enough shopping in, we had to stop by Target. Then off to Baskin Robbins before we headed home. I was worn out after all that! But I enjoyed spending the day with my girls. They are both so much fun to be around.

**And thank you to Karl for staying at home with the two little ones while we were off gallivanting all day. I thought he and Ian were going to get into fisticuffs (tm Grandma Goody) before we even left, but they survived their day together.
